On 01 October 2025, the Politico-Military Group (PMG) Chairman, Mr. Linas Linkevicius, and other PMG members visited the EL EU Operational Headquarters, located in Larissa and organically subordinated to the Hellenic First Army.
The delegation was welcomed by the Commander of the Hellenic First Army, Lieutenant General Stavros Papastathopoulos, together with the Operation Commander of EUNAVFOR ASPIDES, Rear Admiral Vasileios Gryparis. During the visit, presentations were delivered on the role and functions of EL EU – OHQ, which ensures strategic direction, coordination, and oversight, as well as on the mission, structure, and activities of Operation ASPIDES, which plays a crucial role in safeguarding maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
The visit highlighted the strategic importance of EL EU – OHQ, as the parent headquarters of the EU operation and underlined the European Union’s strong commitment to multinational cooperation in maintaining maritime security.
