In Feb 2014, the EL EU OHQ was activated to plan and conduct the EU Operation in Central African Republic (CAR), named EUFOR RCA (République Centrafricaine).
EUFOR RCA was a military Bridging Operation, contributing to the provision of a Safe and Secure Environment (SASE), with a handover to MINUSCA (Mission des NU en RCA/UN mission in CAR) within 9 months from Full Operational Capability, in accordance with the mandate set out in the UNSCR 2181 and concentrating its actions in the Bangui area.
Major General Philippe PONTIÈS was assigned as the EUFOR Operational Commander.
The operation was concluded successfully on 15 March 2015, accomplishing all its tasks, creating a SASE in the Area of Operation.
